So what's this all about?
My goal in teaching is simple: Teach kids without them knowing that they're learning. In my experience, the best kind of learning comes out of simply having fun, not just cracking a book and memorizing key terms only to dump that 'knowledge' to make room for the next quiz.
My background is in Special Education - specifically, a couple of Masters degrees from Hastings College deep in the heart of the vast Nebraska jungles. Degrees, however, are just paper in the end, and we all know that it's the experience that counts. In this regard, I spent a decade teaching gang kids in a lockdown rehabilitation center - everything from second grade reading to college physics, depending on the student and the day. I loved it. I went on to teach at the college level, then online when I realized that this was our future as educators.
Now I bring all of that here, teaching with a very specific tool: Fun. Engaging kids who are at play is the single best way to help them learn the core life skills that will serve them all throughout their days: Communication, Leadership, and Cooperation.
